With a projector, motorized screen and surround system, this is more than successful in the living room, but the dedicated cinema in a specially optimized room is still the dream of many cinema fans. So it was a good thing that there was a free room in the basement of his house in the Ruhr area that was just the right size for a cozy cinema. You can tell from the first moment that a real film fan has been holding the strings in hand, and not only because the posters of classics like "Doctor Zhivago" are hanging on the walls next to posters from the "Lord of the Rings" saga . Rather, the owner managed to create an extremely cozy atmosphere despite all the cinema optimization. Among other things, this is ensured by a well-thought-out LED lighting concept that, controlled by a small Control4 system, can cover many eventualities from daylight to atmospheric - and in all colors of the spectrum.
The double seat upholstered in red leather invites you to loll in, the fluffy carpet flatters your feet and contributes significantly to the successful acoustics of the room. A few strategically placed damping elements on the walls and ceiling were then sufficient to get the reverberation time under control: damped enough for a splendid sound reproduction, but still sufficiently lively that you can feel comfortable there for a long time.
The speakers selected are almost perfect for a cinema of this size. Three built-in speakers DALI Phantom S-180 hidden behind the acoustically transparent screen, together with the four visible Rubicon LCRs from the Danish manufacturer, create a harmonious sound image and more than enough pressure. The system is supplemented by four smaller versions of the Phantom recessed into the ceiling as Atmos loudspeakers. And since the owner's diverse film tastes can make a real bang, four DALI subwoofers provide a pleasant rumble of bass if required. Yamaha's large CX-5100 power amplifier, which takes over the switching and distribution of all sources, acts as the brain of this potent home cinema system. The matching 11-channel power amplifier MX-A5000 provides the necessary power.
Of course, there was no compromise when it came to the picture. The 4K projector Sony VPL-VW760ES offers exactly the brilliant and natural picture quality that a cineast expects and that this lavishly made small cinema deserves.
With numerous good design ideas, a lot of personal contribution by the owner and the advice of our experts, a cinema has been created here that is just right as it is. Not too big, not too small. Not too dark, not too light. Loud enough, but not excessive. And above all in all respects so high quality that you can enjoy all the nuances of the soundtrack and images to the fullest.
