Think Bigger - Samsung THE WALL Luxury

How big can a television be? "Bigger!" Is Samsung's answer.

As early as 1953, Ray Bradbury dreamed of screens that would take up an entire wall of the room. When François Truffaut filmed his novel “Fahrenheit 451” 13 years later, the director found that a little too far-fetched and he replaced the screens with TV sets that looked huge at the time and that today tend to make people smile.

Truffaut's cautious idea of a "big" television has long since overtaken reality. But 66 years later, Bradbury's vision of the wall-filling screen can finally come true thanks to Samsung's "The Wall Luxury".

The Wall concept was presented at CES 2017 and is based on modular tiles that can be combined with one another in practically any way. Micro LEDs sit on these tiles so that each pixel represents its own light source. This enables perfect black levels and enormous brightness, also and especially in bright surroundings.

Originally developed for billboards, advertising spaces and other commercial applications, Samsung has now announced “The Wall Luxury”, an impressive variant for high-quality living and home cinema environments. And “luxury” is indeed the name of the game here. The display measures a breathtaking 292 inches diagonally, which corresponds to an incredible 7.42 meters. It would take a very large room to accommodate this gigantic display - fortunately, smaller diagonals are also possible.

It is logical that the image resolution has to be gigantic at this size - 8K with over 33 million pixels is mandatory here. Powerful processing based on machine learning ensures that all content played is displayed on the giant screen in the best possible way.

The Wall wants to be more than a television. Sure, with this size you don't have to think about a projector, screen and blackout any more and can enjoy a film in a correspondingly good quality in the luxury home theater. But it will also be possible to show the film or the TV program only on part of the display and to use the remaining area for additional information, smart TV apps or other content. With a guaranteed service life of the self-illuminating LEDs of 100,000 hours (11.4 years of continuous operation), The Wall was designed as an “always on” display and can easily become a work of art. A selection of different works is automatically available for display, your own images can be uploaded or the image can be adapted to the environment.

Samsung's "The Wall Luxury" is the ultimate luxury television, which, with its gigantic size, impressive brightness and excellent image quality, enables a movie experience at home that is not possible even with modern projectors and screens. Most of all, though, this is an impressive example of what can happen when enthusiastic engineers are let off the leash. “The Wall Luxury” breaks the boundaries of what is technically feasible. And to do that, the developers simply had to leave the limitations of their own imaginations behind.
