The headphone specialists Sennheiser took their time, but their first wireless in-ears are really good right from the start. The MOMENTUM True Wireless follow the current trend and connect to smartphones and each other via Bluetooth. The radio connection to the phone is not only used to transmit the music signal, but also to control various functions via the mobile phone app (more on this below). You can read our first impressions of these classy earphones here or see the video below.

Wireless in Sennheiser quality

Sure, at Sennheiser you have a reputation to lose, and you don't risk it lightly. The feeling of having real quality in your hand already starts with unpacking. The fabric-clad transport box of the MOMENTUM True Wireless is impressive and makes an extremely solid impression. And, as it turns out at second glance, it is also one of the technical highlights of these in-ears.

Because the chic box is not only used to transport the earplugs, it is also a charging station and reserve battery at the same time. The in-ears lie in molded hollows, hidden magnets keep them securely in the right position. Any charger can be connected to the back of the box using a USB-C cable and then initially charges the headphones inside. Once they have reached their full charge, that's enough for up to four hours of music enjoyment at a time. If you leave the transport box on the charger (regardless of whether with the earphones or without), the integrated battery is charged, which has twice the capacity. You can then recharge the in-ears on the go and independently of a power socket. The total capacity then allows up to 12 hours of running time.

If you ignore long train journeys or similar situations, it is rather rare that you listen to music for four hours continuously. If you put the earphones back into the transport box during the breaks, they are automatically recharged so that the full battery capacity of 12 hours can actually be used effectively in everyday life.

An important factor in the purchase decision for in-ear headphones is the fit. To be prepared for use by different ears, Sennheiser includes the MOMENTUM True Wireless silicone ear pads in a total of four different sizes. At least in our test, they always sat firmly in the ear and comfortably for a long time.

Ingeniously simple operation

The milled metal surfaces with the etched Sennheiser logo on the sides of the MOMENTUM True Wireless look chic, but are primarily used for intuitive operation. Starting with the first Bluetooth pairing, via the volume control and basic functions such as play / pause or last / next track, another feature of the in-ears can be activated or deactivated. It is called TRANSPARENT HEARING and allows a defined proportion of the ambient noise to be heard when it is switched on. The voice assistant of the connected mobile device (Google Assistant, Apple Siri, ...) can be started with a single touch of the right earbud and used via the integrated microphones. Of course, this also works as a hands-free device when making calls, the MOMENTUM True Wireless can be set up in such a way that it is sufficient to insert the right earbud to answer a call.

All settings are made using the SMART CONTROL app available for Android and iOS devices. A nicely made graphic equalizer is also available here, and there are also instructions for using the individual functions, including gesture control. A music player is not integrated into the app, so here the user has the unlimited possibility to use streaming services or music apps of their choice.

And what about the sound?

In addition to technical sophistication, the name Sennheiser stands for excellent sound, and the MOMENTUM True Wireless does not disappoint in this regard either. Pleasantly neutral, with powerful bass and balanced highs, it sounds from the smart earplugs. Combined with the very comfortable seat (at least with the ears available for the test), you quickly forget that you are wearing in-ear headphones and immerse yourself deeply in the music.

So the wait was worth it: Sennheiser's first wireless in-ears can confidently be called a big hit: high-quality workmanship, sensibly selected and smoothly functioning features, high wearing comfort and an excellent sound that lives up to the brand's reputation.
