Visions of Modern Life - Sony LSPX

If you are looking for innovative solutions, you just have to try something out. At least that's what Sony says and is happily experimenting with products under the umbrella term LSPX ("Life Space UX"), where the return-on-investment is at least not directly in the foreground. But in the long term you can learn a lot from such experiments, as you can see from the latest additions to the LSPX portfolio.

It all started in 2014 when Sony introduced the LSPX-W1S. This innovative ultra-short distance projector, built into a piece of furniture and equipped with a brand-new laser light source at the time, astonished with brilliant images in 4K resolution, which it threw as bright as day on the wall from just a few centimeters away. The W1S inspires the specialist audience, but it also had its price - solvent cinema fans had to pay at least US $ 50,000 for one of these fine pieces, which were only made to order.

With its successor, the LSPX-A1, presented at CES 2018, Sony is at least getting closer to the affordable spheres: the A1 is said to cost "only" US $ 30,000, but it can stand a little closer to the wall real 4K with 12bit color depth and has an integrated sound system. With the latter, the tweeters with glass bulbs integrated into the feet are particularly surprising - a technology that is also found in the LSPX-S1 Bluetooth loudspeaker (see below) that was presented at the same time.

In general, it is currently clear what Sony's long-term plan is with its LSPX series. Because from sinfully expensive experiments like the W1S you can derive new technologies on the one hand, and on the other hand find out whether certain ideas and concepts reach the customers.

And it is quite obvious that Sony has recognized a need for projectors with an extremely short projection distance that can be inconspicuously integrated into everyday life and is now providing the luxury products with a "smaller" brother in several respects. The LSPX-P1 also uses laser technology, is hardly larger than a lunch box and, at just 999 euros, proves to be an absolute bargain in comparison. But it can also come up with many exciting features and technologies: it receives its image signals wirelessly, it can be used in different positions and also has an integrated sound system.

Most impressive, however, is the absolutely uncomplicated operation of the LSPX-P1 . The wireless transmission works reliably, external sources can simply be connected to the supplied HDMI module and all functions of the smart device can be easily controlled via a dedicated app. Thanks to an integrated battery, the LSPX-P1 is also extremely flexible in terms of its place of use. Since it can project onto a wall, table or work surface and even on the floor, depending on how it is set up, there are practically no limits to the possible uses.

Of course, there cannot be an ultra-bright 4K projector in the tiny housing. The laser diode used, however, delivers 100 lumens, which is sufficiently bright for the intended use, and the 720p resolution is not perceived as a disadvantage here either. Another advantage of this self-restraint: the small projector does not need a fan and is therefore absolutely quiet in operation.

Another innovation in Sony's LSPX range is the LSPX-S1 wireless speaker . Thanks to Bluetooth technology, the transmission of music is child's play, and since Sony's LDAC transmission standard is used, it is also of very high quality. A technology adopted from the LSPX-A1 also ensures good sound: supported by a downward radiating subwoofer, medium and high frequencies are radiated evenly in all directions via a special glass tube.

But Sony has gone one step further and has integrated an LED light that provides pleasant ambient lighting when listening to music (or otherwise). Not least because of this, the design of the LSPX-S1 is so unique that it does not look like a loudspeaker at all and is probably one of the most inconspicuous sound solutions on the market.

Both the LSPX-P1 projector and the LSPX-S1 Bluetooth loudspeaker are now available in our store or online shop.
