A (multiroom) dream in white

by Olaf Adam

When a completely new building is pending, the integration of a multi-room system is easiest. All details, from the position of the operating units to the space required in the technical room and the cable routing can be planned precisely and optimally right from the start. It is then also possible to integrate a complete home cinema system with full-size floorstanding speakers into the living room in such a way that it does not interfere with the room design but actually complements it. As in this example.

Multiroom in the best sound quality

The requirements for this project were clearly defined in advance. A main room, six adjoining rooms and a listening zone on the terrace should be provided with high quality music. A multitude of sources should be able to be used and the whole thing should of course remain easy to use.

Minimalist design and full functionality After detailed consultation, the customer and the experts at AUDITORIUM Münster decided together on a proven solution from Revox. The main reasons for this decision were, above all, the stability and reliability in daily operation, for which the multiroom system from Switzerland is famous, as well as the optimal integration of the various control panels into the switch and electrical range from Gira.
Revox and Gira, a successful relationship for years

Home cinema in the living room - no problem!

In the open-plan living room, the client wanted a real home cinema feeling with as little visible technology as possible. The original idea of using a motorized screen and projector hiding place was discarded after the customer was able to take a look at the LED / LCD TV E75HU759 from Samsung in the AUDITORIUM. A 75-inch (190 cm) screen diagonal indeed meets cinematic requirements, and the unrestricted daylight suitability in the very bright living room speaks for this solution. Even if the Samsung has enough light reserves to deliver a good picture even in full sunlight, the possibility of a darkening - especially in the summer months when it stays bright for a long time - is still very important for optimal picture quality. For this reason, the home cinema electronics were connected to the rest of the building services via KNX, so that combined room scenes can be created. Now, for example, all you need to do is press a button to switch on the home theater and, depending on the time of day, either dim the lights or activate the shading.

Loudspeaker: Revox Re: sound G elegance

For the speakers in the living room, the only choice could actually be the Re: sound G elegance series of transducers from Revox. These slim floorstanding loudspeakers along with center speakers and subwoofers offer both powerful and detailed sound and, with their elegant white surfaces, fit seamlessly into the stylish surroundings. In addition, a closed glass rack from Spectral accommodates all of the electronics, which remain invisible behind an infrared-permeable fabric covering and yet still fully operable.

The brain of the multiroom system - the Revox Re: system M51 - sits well hidden in the spectral rack in the living room with the home theater players

In-wall and outdoor speakers from Bowers & Wilkins

No visible technology was desired in the adjoining rooms. In order to guarantee the best possible sound quality in the kitchen, bathroom, guest toilet, bedroom and hall, high-quality ceiling speakers from Bowers & Wilkins are used here. The client and AUDITORIUM also rely on the experience of the British hi-fi specialists on the terrace, which is covered by the AM-1 external speakers from the same company.

Flexible operation

In terms of operation, the installed system allows the greatest possible flexibility. All areas of the house can be fully exchanged via a central Gira touch panel. Gira / Revox keypads are used for quick and easy operation in the individual rooms. Apps on the various mobile devices of the owners are also available for the control and, last but not least, the home theater electronics can be operated in conventional ways using a programmed universal remote control. The system is intelligent enough to avoid conflicts between the individual control paths, so the residents can operate the building technology in a very uncomplicated manner and as required in the way that is most convenient.

Control center: The large Gira touch display is just one of the options for controlling the system. Except for the Blu-ray player and TV receiver in the living room, all rooms can access different sources. In addition to FM and Internet radio, this is primarily a server configured by AUDITORIUM, which provides the system with the owner's entire music collection in lossless FLAC quality. New CDs can of course be added to the library using the automatic ripping function.
The entire electronics including the music server disappear invisibly in the 19-inch rack in the building services room. install all elements successively for seven months. As a reward for this detailed planning, the owner was able to fully commission the system on time for moving in. And with good music in all rooms, unpacking boxes in your new home is twice as much fun!
