Many homeowners considering a cinema in their own four walls will sooner or later consider the basement. There is often enough space that can be planned here, the cinema installation would not compress the design of the living area and the structural conditions are usually good in order to be able to operate the cinema at an appropriate volume without getting into trouble with the neighbors every time. However, a bare basement room is initially not the most comfortable place, and the acoustic conditions are often anything but ideal. The basement is therefore perfectly suitable for the installation of a cinema, but there are many things to consider when planning and implementing. As always with projects of this type, the work begins with thorough planning.
For the owner of the cinema presented here, it was also clear that the room to be redesigned should be more than just a cinema. Rather, a room should be created in which you can celebrate with friends or relax in comfort alone. So the Westphalian went to work, planning the positioning of the TV, screen, projector and seating and designed an elegantly curved bar counter for the remaining space. With its massive steel surface, which was specifically rusted and then sealed, it is not only a real eye-catcher in the leisure room, it offers cleverly integrated space for all the home cinema electronics and thus serves the home owner as a control center of his private cinema. The LED strips attached to the front accentuate the curved shape of the bar and serve as ambient lighting when the cinema is open.
Despite the flexible usage options, the owner did not want to compromise on the quality of his home theater. That is why he included AUDITORIUM specialist planner Dennis Wilms in the planning. A high-quality 4K projector from Sony and a motorized screen from the industry leader Stewart were already available, together the enormous light reserves of the projector and the gray Stewart cloth ensure that the image impression in the bright room is absolutely impressive even when the ambient lighting is switched on.
The speaker configuration posed a greater challenge. Because, of course, the new cinema should also meet the latest standards and offer full support for the Atmos and Auro 3D sound formats, so no fewer than 11 loudspeakers should be installed as inconspicuously as possible. While flat but extremely powerful wall speakers from DALI's Opticon and Rubicon series were used for the 'normal' surround equipment, a different solution had to be found for the ceiling speakers. For optical reasons, the sound sources were to be housed invisibly here, but because the ceiling height was already quite low in the raw state, there was not enough space for the suspended ceiling required for conventional ceiling speakers. Instead, ultra-flat carbon soundboards from PurSonic were installed, which can be installed under the ceiling plaster and guarantee maximum sound with minimal installation depth.
The overall result can truly be heard and seen. The projector and screen harmonize perfectly, and the sound is always precise, powerful and tonal, even under full load. This is particularly impressive because, thanks to the absolutely invisible ceiling speakers, an amazing 3D listening experience is created.
Bar ambience, party location, retreat room or action cinema - this media room, which in our opinion is extremely successful, is ideal for a wide range of uses that are not mutually exclusive.
